Individual Access Instructions
To activate online access, please follow these instructions:

2. Under the “Activation” header, click “Individuals and Society Members: Activate your online access.”
3. Enter your customer number. You can find your customer number on the mailing label of the journal or on the renewal notice. If you are unable to find your customer number, please contact Customer Service.
4. Click “Submit,” which will produce an activation form.
5. Complete the form to activate your access to the products listed. (The e-mail address provided will be used to provide you with important information regarding electronic access.)
6. Click “Send form.”
7. You may now access Duke University Press titles at dukejournals.org. You will receive a confirmation e-mail at the e-mail address you provided.
Institutional Access Instructions

3. Enter your institution’s customer number. (If your institution has an e-mail address on file, activation instructions with customer number included will be sent when your order is processed. If your institution has multiple customer numbers, you will receive an e-mail for each one.)

7. Click the button at the top of the page to register your institution’s IP addresses.

American Literary Scholarship features bibliographic essays arranged by writer and time period, from pre-1800 to the present, and acts as a “systematic evaluative guide to current published studies of American literature” (ALA Booklist). Each volume of American Literary Scholarship covers content from two years previous to the volume.
Membership in the American Literature Section of the Modern Language Association includes the following: a one-year subscription to American Literature, a copy of the annual hardbound American Literary Scholarship, electronic access to current and back volumes of American Literature through a combination of HighWire Press and JSTOR, and electronic access to American Literary Scholarship, beginning with the 1998 edition, through HighWire Press.
