e-Duke Scholarly Collection

The e-Duke Scholarly Collection includes online access to twenty-nine Duke humanities and social science journals. Pricing for the collection is based on the regular subscription rate of twenty titles; the nine journals that are also available on Project Muse are included in the e-Duke Scholarly Collection for no additional cost.

Access to all twenty-nine journals in the collection includes not only the 2006 issues as they are published, but also all available back issues, approximately from the 2000–2005 volumes.

Starting in 2006, the e-Duke Scholarly Collection will be hosted on HighWire. For access instructions, please see below.

Pricing

What is my institution’s price based on?

Derived from the model originally created by Project Muse, the e-Duke Scholarly Collection pricing model will combine a tier system, based on Carnegie classifications, with usage statistics to create price categories. As no reliable usage statistics are currently available, the 2006 and 2007 e-Duke Scholarly Collection prices for all libraries will be based on median usage. Based on this calculation, all institutions that subscribe for 2006 and/or 2007 will receive discounts of 33-84% off the full value of the collection. Once Duke University Press has reliable 2006 usage statistics from HighWire Press, usage quartiles will be implemented in combination with the current tiered pricing to determine e-Duke Scholarly Collection rates in 2008.
Please contact Library Relations for your institution’s price.

What will my institution’s price be in 2008?

For 2008 subscriptions, once Duke University Press has reliable 2006 usage statistics from HighWire Press, Duke will use usage quartiles in combination with the current tiered pricing to determine e-Duke Scholarly Collection rates.

How much will the e-Duke Scholarly Collection cost my institution in future years?

For 2005 Collection subscribers only: As a result of the change in the 2006 pricing structure, some subscribers from 2005 may experience significant price changes. To prevent significant impact on institutional budgets, Duke University Press will cap the amount of increase at $500 per year.

For 2006 Collection subscribers: For 2006 subscribers to the e-Duke Scholarly Collection, Duke University Press commits to limiting increases for the tier-based, median-usage Collection price to 6% or 8% for 2007, depending on whether any new titles are added.

In 2008, once usage-based pricing with quartiles is instituted, the rates for individual institutions will change depending on quartile assignment. The price will increase or decrease for each institution based on their HighWire usage statistics.
