  • Social Medicine Reader Intern
    Editing, Design, and Production Group

    Duke University Press's editorial department is seeking student workers to work on the 3rd edition of The Social Medicine Reader. These books, which are aimed at medical students and students of public health, deal with social and cultural issues in medicine, and include numerous pieces of writing from a wide variety of sources.

    Duke University Press is located at 905 W Main Street, Durham, NC in Brightleaf Square, and easily accessible by bus.

  • Job Description:

    1. track down individual or corporate copyright holders
    2. negotiate contract terms with publishers and communicate them to Reader editors
    3. assess when public domain and fair use are applicable for a particular selection, so that permissions are not required
    4. keep track of permissions status and expenditures for all pieces in both volumes of the Reader
  • Education/Training

    • Work requires knowledge of basic grammar, math and clerical principles normally acquired through a high school education.
