  • Student Position, Books Acquisitions
    Books Acquisitions Group

Duke University Press is looking for an undergraduate or graduate student to assist our Books Acquisitions team for spring semester, especially students who would be able to continue into the summer or next academic year. Both work study and non-work study positions are available. This is a paid position and is approximately 10 hours of work per week, Monday thru Friday, generally in 3 to 5 hour shifts between the hours of 9am and 6pm.

Duke Press publishes 120 books per year, on subjects such as Latin American studies, political theory, history, cultural studies, African-American studies, film and television studies, and anthropology. The Press is located at 905 W. Main Street, Downtown Durham @ Brightleaf Square, and is easily accessible via public transportation.

The Books Acquisitions team reviews and solicits manuscripts, decides which books to publish, then corresponds with authors in the long process of revision and preparation of the manuscript for production. This student position provides early exposure to some of the cutting-edge academic work that our authors produce. In addition to learning how an academic book is brought into the public realm, you’ll also obtain excellent experience with publishing terminology and protocol.
