  • Student Job, Books Acquisitions
    Books Acquisitions Group

Duke University Press is seeking two (2) undergraduate student workers for the full academic year 2018-19. These two paid positions will work with our Books Acquisitions team for approximately 10-15 hours per week, Monday thru Friday, usually in 3 to 5 hour shifts between the general hours of 9am and 6pm. The pay rate is $10.70 per hour.

Duke Press publishes 120 books per year, on subjects such as Latin American studies, gender studies, history, cultural studies, African-American studies, film and television studies, and anthropology. The Press is located at 905 W. Main Street, Downtown Durham @ Brightleaf Square, and is easily accessible via public transportation.

The Books Acquisitions team reviews and solicits manuscripts, decides which books to publish, then corresponds with authors in the long process of revision and preparation of the manuscript for production. These available student positions provide early exposure to some of the cutting-edge academic work that our authors produce. In addition to learning how an academic book is brought into the public realm, our students also obtain excellent experience with publishing terminology and protocol.

If you are a currently-enrolled undergraduate and are interested in applying for one of our two positions, please respond by sending an e-mail to StudentJobs@dukeUpress.edu before close of the position on Friday, July 27th. Please put “BACQ Student Job” in the subject line, attach your résumé & cover letter, and include contact information for 3 references.
