“Curating Crisis” examines the ways in which performance curators are responding to today’s crises and conflicts both in the fields of theater, performance, and dance and, more broadly, in the spheres of politics, economics, and history. A group of four interviews with performance curators—Florian Malzacher, Sodja Lotker, Miranda Wright, and Boris Charmatz—explores how models of producing, presenting, and curating performance are evolving in response to changes in funding, audience demographics, and creative practices. A special section (guest-coedited by Sigrid Gareis) features a series of essays based on lectures originally presented in SpielART Festival’s 2015 convening, “Show Me the World,” asking how curation strategies might acknowledge and build from postcolonial contexts.
