Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, East Asian Science, Technology and Society: An International Journal (EASTS) aims to bring together East Asian and Western scholars from the fields of science, technology, and society (STS). Examining issues such as human embryonic stem-cell research, family and reproductive technologies, and the globalization of Chinese medicine, the journal publishes research on how society and culture in East Asia interact with science, technology, and medicine. EASTS serves as a gathering place to facilitate the growing efforts of STS networks from Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe to foster an internationally open and inclusive community. The journal is composed of research articles, research notes, critical reviews, and book reviews.

For AuthorsBack to Top
EASTS welcomes submissions of research papers, research notes, and critical reviews based on original research. To submit a manuscript, please follow the instructions below.

1. Articles should be between eight thousand and twelve thousand words in length, including footnotes and references. The journal also publishes shorter pieces called "research notes," which are typically less than eight thousand words in length. In both cases, the writing must meet professional standards; authors who are not native speakers of English are encouraged to seek the assistance of a professional editor before making a submission.

2. Authors are advised to consult The Chicago Manual of Style, seventeenth edition, as a guidebook for style and Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, eleventh edition, as a guide for spelling. For additional guidance about the journal's style, including an explanation of the author-date style of documentation and sample citations, please consult the EASTS style guide.

3. Please submit work via the journal's Editorial Manager page at www.editorialmanager.com/easts. If you are using the system for the first time, please select “REGISTER” from the menu at the top of the page and fill in the required information. The system will then send you an email with your username and a temporary password. (You can change your password after logging in.) Once you have successfully registered, please select “SUBMIT A MANUSCRIPT” from the menu.

4. Your manuscript should be a Word (.doc or .docx) file, not a PDF. Please include the manuscript’s title, abstract, three to five keywords, and all figures in the Word file.

5. If you are including any figures, tables, or graphs, please read carefully this note on reproducing figures.

6. Submissions to EASTS will undergo a double-blind peer review; please make sure not to include any personal information or acknowledgment in the manuscript. These will be added later.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the assistant editor, Yen Ke, at eastsjournal@gmail.com. The editor in chief, Wen-Hua Kuo, can be reached at whkuo@ym.edu.tw.
