This special issue examines how science and technology have been part of recent trends of transformation in Indonesia. Contributors illustrate how scientific and technical practices contribute to social, political, and economic change across the archipelago. Essays discuss an array of transformations that characterize the co-constitution between individuals and institutions, on the one hand, and infrastructures and the environment, on the other. The issue revolves around the interplay between knowledge and transformation with an emphasis on local institutions, civil society, and epistemic communities.
