Hydra Rising

Hydra Rising examines everyday resistance to the violence of borders, citizenship, and immigration policing. The book’s contributors, scholars and activists fighting for mobility freedom, track how classed, nationalized, racialized, and gendered divisions separate those who are made into migrants and those who are made into citizens. Inspired by Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker’s landmark history book, The Many-Headed Hydra, contributors develop the idea of the Hydra as a method to identify common threads and transformative possibilities across diverse contemporary struggles. Paying close attention to insurgent practices from below, Hydra Rising centers migrantized people who are working to challenge and ultimately overcome the worldwide regime of national borders and the ruling relations giving them form.
