Contributors to this special issue seek to detach the future of Kashmir from the narrative, aesthetic, and political frames of powerful nation-states that have sought to keep Kashmiris confined to a long and seemingly enduring colonial present. The authors encourage radical imaginations of possible futures in danger of foreclosure by occupying states, asking readers to consider occupation as a temporal and spatial regime. Topics covered include a feminist manifesto for Kashmiri futures; meteorological wars and climate futures in Kashmir; expressions of freedom in Kashmiri transgender wedding songs; the future of research in critical Kashmir studies; and how different Asian, Pacific Islander, and Indigenous communities in Colorado are fighting for sovereignty of their homelands.
