Leading from the Center

The office of dean has evolved from assistant to the president to senior administrative officer with signficant responsibilities for academic leadership. This book presents the findings of the Lilly-sponsored Study of Chief Academic Officers in North American Theological Schools. The study’s director offers a description of the deanship in theological education based on the research data, examines effective practices in both performance and hiring, reflects critcally on the potential of the office, and affirms the importance of the call to academic administration. This book will be of value to deans and the theological schools that hire them, and to presidents, faculty, administrators, board members, and church leaders who work with deans.
