Contributors to this special issue examine the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for literary studies in the real time of the crisis. "Originally conceived in April 2020, this issue was driven by an impulse toward community in that moment of collective vertigo," write the editors in their introduction. "We wanted to open a space in which a new community of literary scholars, teachers, and students would bring their unique expertise and imagination to bear on how literature and its study could help us make sense of the loss and trauma we had started to witness all around us."
