Contributors to this special issue aim to shift the way we think about transition by analyzing transition through the lens of class. The authors argue that transition is less a volitional act of identification than a concrete response to living and working in the world and examine the para-academic nature of "trans Marxism" which, according to the general editor's introduction, "developed outside the charmed circle of university resources as an insurgent intellectual movement, advancing the analysis of people who have long been construed as a problem wherever they think, even within conventional definitions of the proletariat."
