Film and History

This issue highlights polyvalent relationships between history and film. The authors alternate between exploring film as a historical medium that preserves knowledge about the past and as a historiographical mode that represents the past in particular ways. The authors also examine how histories of underrepresented film cultures are constructed and analyze contemporary viewers’ reception of films about the past.
