Journal Current volume: 100 Frequency: Quarterly
The Hispanic American Historical Review is published quarterly by Duke University Press in cooperation with the Conference on Latin American History and the American Historical Association.

Founded in 1918 at Duke University, HAHR pioneered the study of Latin American history and culture in the United States. Today, it maintains a distinguished tradition of publishing vital work across thematic, chronological, regional, and methodological specializations. It is generally recognized as the preeminent journal in the field of Latin American history. HAHR publishes peer-reviewed articles featuring original, innovative research and path-breaking analysis. Each issue also contains a comprehensive book review section, which provides commentary on every facet of scholarship on Latin American history and culture. The journal periodically publishes special features, such as forums and special issues.

HAHR observed its 100th anniversary in 2018 and marked the occasion with a “Celebrating 100 Years of the Hispanic American Historical Review” celebratory video highlighting the history and the future of the journal.

To submit an article, please visit www.editorialmanager/hahr. If this is your first time using Editorial Manager, you will need to register. Please also submit electronic copies of all tables and artwork, if possible.

We accept submissions for review in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Articles accepted for publication in languages other than English may be translated into English at the journal's discretion and expense.

Due to space limitations, we ask that authors limit their articles to roughly 12,000 words, including documentation. Articles slightly over this limit may be considered for publication with the understanding that suggestions for shortening will be made during the review process. Articles that are significantly longer than the length limit will be returned to the author with a request to edit the text and resubmit.
