Demography: A Subscribe to Open Journal

Demography, the flagship publication of the Population Association of America, is offered through a Subscribe to Open (S2O) model.

About

Demography, the flagship publication of the Population Association of America, presents the highest-quality original research of scholars in a broad range of disciplines that includes anthropology, biology, economics, geography, history, psychology, public health, sociology, and statistics.

Starting in 2024, Demography has been offered through a Subscribe to Open (S2O) model. The S2O model uses subscription payments to convert gated access journals to full open access (OA). Subscription fees support overhead publishing costs, and the current content for that year will be made fully OA if the funding threshold is met.

  • 2021, 2022, 2023 volumes are published open access and will remain open.
  • Subscribers have perpetual access to the 2026 volume and term access to the journal's entire backlist (1964-2020, 2024-2025).
  • When the funding threshold is met, the 2026 volume will be made fully open access.
  • Articles with corresponding authors who are affiliated with S2O-subscribing institutions are guaranteed to be open access in perpetuity.

Contact FundDemographyNow@dukeupress.edu or membersupport@lyrasis.org if your institution would like to make a non-subscription contribution. The library membership organization Lyrasis will facilitate contributions to the journal. We welcome support in any amount.
